Rev. Victor Nelson
Welcome to Resurrection Lutheran Church! I am Pastor Victor Nelson. I am the fifth pastor of this congregation and began serving here in 1994. Prior to that, I was a pastor for 10 years at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gowanda (south of Buffalo), New York.
What I love about Resurrection Lutheran Church is that it is a place where each person can get to know Jesus and get to know Him better. Through worship, Bible study, Sunday school, preschool, choir programs, outreach and caring ministries, each person has the opportunity to draw closer to Jesus as their Savior. The forgiveness of Jesus and the mercy of Jesus, which He offers through His death and resurrection, are at the heart of all that we do here at Resurrection Lutheran Church.
One of my favorite Bible verses is taken from Psalm 145:4: “One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.” This verse reminds me that Resurrection Lutheran Church is a place where one generation shares the good news of God with the next generation. On Sunday Morning, you may greet people who are 9 decades old and people who are 9 months old! What a special place where people of all ages are worshiping and growing in faith.
And this is the reason why I became a pastor some thirty years ago. I worked as a physical therapist in a large cancer hospital. I saw the need for people of all ages to have the hope and love of Jesus. I saw the need for people to have the light of God in the midst of very dark situations. The Lord led me to leave my profession as a physical therapist and go to seminary to study to be a pastor. Since then, I have had many opportunities to share the love, hope and light of Jesus to people of all ages and various circumstances of life.
A few things about myself: I am very blessed to be married to Marcia for over 38 years. We have four adult children, a wonderful daughter-in-law, a great son-in-law, and two terrific grandchildren. In my spare time, I enjoy playing sports such as basketball, tennis or just about any other competitive sport. I also love to read theology and history.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. I hope you got to know me just a little better. But much more than that, I hope we all can come to know Jesus a little bit better and follow Him a little more closely!
