Hello everyone, and welcome to Resurrection Lutheran Church. My name is Steven, and I am a 28-year old child of God. I am not a perfect man, and I am not a perfect pastor. That's the truth. I am a sinner, and I make mistakes everyday. However, I am redeemed by God through repentance and the forgiveness of Jesus Christ, my Lord. It is Him I praise and Him alone I serve. I could just leave it at that (since that's really the only thing that matters), but I guess I'll share a little about myself.

I was born in the mid-west and grew up outside Chicago. I love my family very much, and I am forever thankful to my parents (Jeff and Kathryn) for raising me in a Christian home and taking me to church every Sunday, no excuses. :) Now that I am an adult, I realize my parents gave me the greatest gift of all, FAITH. Lord knows, I couldn't handle the pain of this broken world with out it. I am the oldest of four and have three siblings (Phil, Joe, and Hannah). I am not married, but I have a chocolate lab named Bellamy, who occasionally keeps me company during late-nights at church.

I went to college near Milwaukee and got my undergraduate degree in Theology from Concordia University Wisconsin in spring of 2009. I worked at West Portal Lutheran Church for one year in San Francisco (where I completed my vicarage) before graduating with my Masters of Divinity from Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana. You've probably never heard of Fort Wayne before, but it is briefly mentioned in the movie Animal House... remember Fawn Leibowitz? I was ordained at Redeemer Lutheran Church (Elmhurst, IL) and began working at RLC in the summer of June 2013.

As Assistant Pastor of Resurrection Lutheran, I do lots of things and have many responsibilities, but the most important of all of these is administering the Sacraments, preaching, and teaching the Word of God. I work for the Lord by serving the members of our congregation and the Cairo community. I am technically not a "youth pastor"; However, the focus of most of my work is Youth & Young Family Ministry and Outreach. I also oversee one of our most valuable ministries, Joyful Christian Preschool.

In my spare time I like to write (songs, poems, prose), and the best gift I ever received was a 1950s typewriter from my dad. I am fascinated by the work of The Creator and have a heart for all of our fellow creatures, especially reptiles and amphibians (I own a gecko and two tree frogs). I absolutely love music and enjoy singing, playing guitar, etc. But most importantly, I sincerely have a heart for sharing the love of Christ with all of God's children, and I am honored to serve the members of RLC here in New York.
Love & Peace! -Pastor Steve

We Really Hope You Come!

NERVOUS ABOUT ATTENDING? Please don't be. We believe everybody has been uniquely created by God - intentionally designed to be differently-gifted, destined to be special, and especially equipped to intimately know and love Him as their Father and Creator. Each and every one of us, with distinct gifts and abilities, has been blessed by God to bless others. When we love one another, we better each other, and in Christ we are complete. Thus, we feel at home in the comfort, hope, peace, and love of God's holy community. So if you should decide to BLESS US with your presence, we promise we'll try our best to do the same for you. NOT A SCHOLAR? No biggie, very few are called to be. Heavenly wisdom is freely-given and revealed to us through God's Holy Word. The Gospel is universally accessible, and The Bible is capable of being by understood by all. Simply trust in Christ, and be made wise. NOT A BIBLE BUFF? No problem. You're curiosity is more than enough, and we will humbly greet you as a fellow student at the feet of Jesus, happily striving after the divine wisdom of His Teachings. NEVER READ IT BEFORE? That's OK. No one's expecting you have, and it's never too late to start. DON'T EVEN OWN ONE? That's OK too. We've got lots on the shelf, and one's saved just for you. DON'T LIKE TO READ OUT LOUD? We won't make you. RATHER NOT TALK? You may come just to listen. NO FANCY CLOTHES? No one care what you own, what you wear, or how you choose to do your hair. We do care... but only about, you! TATTOOS? Us too. MAKE MISTAKES? Join the club! SHADY PAST? We welcome you to come and embrace the bright future before you, and rejoice in the great gift of God's Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord who died on the cross for the forgiveness of sins and rose again from the dead so that you may live forever with Him in Heaven. He knows everything about you and wants everything for you. He has beautiful things in store for your life, and will bless you if you let Him. Ask and you shall receive; Seek and you shall find; Believe and you shall see the glorious light of God's salvation. At Resurrection, you will always feel welcome, and we really hope you come. So please stop by any time, and Come Alive In Christ! Love & Peace, Pastor Steve
